Delavan Lake 6/1/09 -
6/8/09
The warmer weather has warmed the water
column. The largemouth bass are now post-spawn and the bluegills are
very close to spawning. The boat traffic has become intense.
Northern Pike fishing has been very consistent. Most of the fish are
being caught on slip bobbers in 12-14 ft of water. Look for the fish
by the Village Supper Club or by the Gray condos. You want to fish
your slip bobbers with medium suckers.
Earlier last week the largemouth bass were in the shallows. The fish
have now moved to the intermediate weeds in 8-10 ft of water. They
are pretty sporadic because they can be anywhere on the weedline.
The fish I caught last week, were in 8-10 ft of water in no
particular key location. Most of the fish I caught last week, were
either caught on Texas rigged All Terrain Stiks or split shot rigged
nightcrawlers fished in the weedline.
The crappie action has been very good. The fish have been anywhere
from 10-12 ft of water. Purple or Yellow cubby jigs have been
producing most of the bites. The best locations are west of the
Yacht club, Assembly Park or by Browns Channel. You need to keep
moving to find the active fish.
Walleye fishing has been very slow. You can catch a couple, but they
are few and far between. Look for the fish by the Oriental boat
house or by Browns Channel. Most of the fish are coming off of
nightcrawlers or leeches. I prefer fishing them on lindy rigs with a
24 inch leaders tipped with a nightcrawler or a leech.
With the warming water temperatures, most of the bluegills on the
lake are moving shallow. They are looking for the hard sand bottoms
to spawn. Look for the fish, west of Willow Point or by Lake Lawn
Lodge. The best bait is red worms or wax worms.
Good luck and I hope to
see you on the water.
