Delavan Lake 6/8/09 -
6/14/09
Fishing continues to improve. The crappie bite is phenomenal
right now, so if you are interested in crappie fishing get out there
now!
Largemouth bass are in the mid level weeds. They are anywhere
from 10-12 ft of water. They can be caught on jigs or split shot
rigged nightcrawlers. Some success has been coming off of medium
diving crankbaits. 300 series Bandit are producing a lot of fish.
Pearl looking like a crappie or perch pattern is your best option.
Look for the fish by the Oriental boat house, Browns Channel or by
Lake Lawn Lodge.
The crappies are in the middle weedline in 12-15 ft of water.
They are being caught on plastics, yellow or purple are the best
choices. Look for the fish by the Yacht Club, the old Delavan Lake
Marina or by Browns Channel. The best presentation is a 1/32 oz jig
with a split shot one foot above. The retrieve has been critical;
you want a slow stop and go retrieve. The slower you can work it
without getting weeds, the better.
Walleye fishing has been very slow. Most of the fish are on the
weedline in 15-18 ft of water. They are being caught on either
lindy rigged nightcrawlers or lindy rigged leeches. The best
location has been by Browns Channel or by Willow Point. This
fishing has been pretty spotty, so you need to spend some time to
catch some fish. With the excessive amount of wind this week, I’ve
been using my 9.9 hp kicker to maintain the proper depth.
The bluegills are preparing to spawn. They are in 1-2 ft of
water. Look for the fish on the hard sand bottoms. The best
location has been west of the Yacht club and west of Willow Point.
Bobbers with leaf worms or hellgrammites are producing most of the
action. The bluegills will be shallow for the next week or so. Do
not over harvest the spawning fish for they are the future of the
lake.
Northern Pike have again moved to the weedlines. They can be
caught in 15-20 ft of water. Lindy rigged medium suckers have been
producing most of the action. The best location is by Belvidere
Park or by the gray condos. The concentration of fish is less
because of the water temperature, so you need to keep moving to find
the fish that are on the weedline.
