Lake Geneva 7/27/09 -
8/2/09
Fishing still remains a bit
inconsistent. The cold weather and thunderstorms put a damper on the
summer bite this week.
Northern Pike are starting to show up in 30-35 ft of water. However,
they are not in big schools, so it’s one here or there at this
point. Lindy rigging small suckers are producing most of the
success. The west and east side of Williams Bay is producing most of
the action. Some fish are also being caught in Fontana.
Largemouth Bass remain in 12-14 ft of water. They can be caught drop
shotting small 4 inch worms or on nightcrawlers. The best location
is by Trinkes or in Williams Bay. The best colored worm is green
pumpkin. I prefer Yum Finesse worms. Some fish are still being
caught on top water in early morning. The best success is coming
near Trinkes or around the boat docks in Williams Bay.
Smallmouth bass are very scattered. There are some large fish still
being caught in shallow water, due to the cold temperatures. The
best lures have been small husky jerks or white hair jigs. Work a
depth of 14-16 ft. for the most active fish. The best location has
been by Elgin Club or by Fontana.
Perch are very active in the shallow water. Look for the fish in
10-12 ft of water. The best location is by Rainbow Point or by
Colemans Point. Small fathead minnows fished on a slip bobber is
producing most of the success. It remains the same, that you need to
sort through a lot of fish to catch a good meal of quality size.
Bluegills have started to migrate into deeper water. The bigger fish
are in 16-18 ft of water. The best location is by Elgin club or by
Linn Pier. The easiest way to fish is straight beneath the boat
using small leaf worms or red worms while anchored.
Walleye fishing at night remains average. Trolling Walleye Bandits
or Lindy rigging leeches have been producing most of the fish. The
best location is by Geneva Bay or Fontana Beach. I like the water
depth of 15-18 ft.
Good luck and I hope to see you on the water. For guide parties,
