Lake Geneva 6/22/09 -
6/28/09
Fishing on Lake Geneva has
been very good. Most of the game fish are in the shallows. The pike,
largemouth and smallmouth bass can be readily caught. With the heavy
rains at the end of the week, it slowed the bite on the weekend but
it should still be really good this coming week.
Largemouth bass are in the shallows. Most are post spawn. They can
be caught on Senkos or All Terrain Stiks. Green pumpkin is the best
color or floating worms in green pumpkin. Look for the fish in
Williams Bay, Trinkes Bay or Geneva Bay. The best depth continues to
be 8-12 ft of water. Live bait fishermen are having great success on
split shot rigged nightcrawlers. I’ve been fishing by Fontana or by
Colemans Point for most of my success.
Rock bass are literally everywhere on the lake and they are
aggressively hitting any bait presented. I’ve been catching 50-100
every trip out. They are becoming almost a nuisance because the
other bass aren’t able to get the bait. Look for the fish by
Belvidere Park or by the Elgin Club for the best success, the best
depth is 8 ft of water.
Smallmouth bass are all post spawn. They are still cruising their
spawning flats in 8-14 ft of water. The best location has been by
Elgin Club or by Belvidere Park. My best success has come off of
Arkie U Bolt jigs or split shot rigged nightcrawlers.
The northern pike are in the shallows chasing any pan fish that are
reeled in. The best presentation is a white spinner bait or a medium
diving crank bait such as the deep diving walleye Bandit or fishing
the Wally Diver CD7 in Perch pattern.
Perch are biting in the 8-10 ft depth range. They are being caught
on slip bobber rigs fished with either a leaf worm or a small
fathead minnow. The best location has been by Rainbow Point or by
Colemans Point. Windy days have been producing most of the fish.
