Geneva Report
6/19/11 - Lake Geneva, partly cloudy, 78 degrees. Water temp
65 degrees. Happy Fathers Day! We will be fishing for smallmouth
bass in 10-14 ft of water and as many fish as we can catch. I'm
taking a friend and two small children. The rock bass should be
biting well and will keep the younger folks interested.
6/18/11 - Lake Geneva, sunny, 80 degrees, E winds at 10 mph.
Water temp 64 degrees. Caught 5 largemouth, the biggest was 4 lbs.
and one smallmouth, 22 inches. Lost 5 other fish. We had a terrible
time keeping the fish on the hook. The best depth was 10-14 ft of
water. The best location was west of Linn Pier. The biggest smallie
came off of Conference Point.
6/13/11 - Lake Geneva, sunny, 72 degrees, NE winds at 12 mph.
Water temp 62 degrees. Caught 2 smallmouth bass, both were legal and
we lost the third. Caught 1 largemouth, 3.6 lbs and loads of rock
bass. Fished by Belvidere Park and by Black Point with Black Point
being the better choice. The best depth was 12-13 ft of water.
6/12/11 - Lake Geneva, sunny, light winds out of the East, 65
degrees, water temp 63 degrees. Caught 7 smallmouth bass, 5 were
legal, and a bunch of rock bass, bluegills and perch. The best bait
was a white hair jig in 12-13 ft of water. There are still some bass
spawning however, a lot of the fish were actively feeding up so they
were getting the hair jig about 2 ft off bottom. The nightcrawlers
caught all of the rock bass.
6/11/11 - Delavan Lake, sunny, N winds at 10 mph. 50 degrees,
water temp 68 degrees. Caught a mix of bluegills and crappies in
10-12 ft of water. The blugills were caught slip bobbering Thill
slip bobbers and the crappies were caught on purple plastics. The
best location was by Del Mar and by the Marina.
6/08/11- Delavan Lake, cloudy, W winds at 15-20 mph. 70 degrees,
water temp 71 degrees. Caugth 1 northern Pike and 20-30 crappies.
Had a hard time lindy rigging the suckers due to the heavy winds.
Fished them in 18-20 ft of water. The crappies were right on the
weedline in 10-12 ft of water. Purple plastics produced most of the
fish.
6/7/11 - Delavan Lake, p.m., sunny SW winds at 15-20 mph. 95
degrees, water temp 71 degrees. Caught 13 largemouth bass, lost
about 6 others. I had a hard time hooking the fish. We were fishing
post spawn fish by Lake Lawn Lodge and in Viewcrest Bay. The best
depth was 3-4 ft of water. Best bait was Texas rigged Senko's
6/7/11 - Lake Geneva, a.m., sunny SW winds at 10-15 mph. 90
degrees, water temp 63 degrees. Today was a continuation of
yesterdays rock bass harvest. No one can say I don't do my share to
remove Rock Bass from Lake Geneva! In two days, I cleaned about 80
fish.
6/6/11 - Lake Geneva, p.m., sunny, SW winds at 15-20 mph. 90
degrees, water temp 63 degrees. Caught 2 smallmouth bass and about
75 rock bass. This trip was to put meat in my customers freezer.
Most of the fish were caught in Belvidere Park in 8-10 ft of water.
The best bait was split shot rigged nightcrawlers.
6/6/11 - Lake Geneva, a.m., sunny, light winds out of the east
at 5 mph. 70 degrees, water temp 61 degrees. Caught 1 legal
largemouth, 3 smallmouth bass and a load of rock bass. The best
depth was 10-12 ft of water. Fished by Colemans point and Belvidere
Park. The best bait was a white hair jig or the Klozar minnow fished
on a fly rod.
6/5/11 - Delavan Lake, 80 degrees, winds were calm. Water
temp 61 degrees. Caught 2 largemouth bass, 20 bluegills and 21
crappies. Took my son and brother in law on a pan fish trip. Had a
lot of success in the 12-15 ft weedline. The bluegills were caught
in 3-4 ft of water on small leaf worms.
6/4/11 - Lake Koshkonong, 85 degrees, E wind at 5 mph. Water
temp 59 degrees. Caught 8 legal walleyes, 8 jumbo perch and a bunch
of white bass. Trolled #5 Shad Raps in 5-6 ft of water. Fished near
Charlies Bluff.
6/3/11 - Lake Geneva, 75 degrees, SW winds at 15 mph. Water temp
58 degrees. Caught 9 largemouth bass and one smallmouth bass and
about 40 rock bass. Most of the fish were caught on nightcrawlers.
The best depth was 10-12 ft of water. Spent most of the time fishing
the west end of the lake near Fontana.
6/1/11 - Lake Geneva, 70 degrees, SW winds at 15 mph. Water temp
54 degrees. Caught 10 largemouth bass - 3 were legal, along with
several perch, rock bass and bluegills. The fish were caught in 8-10
ft of water on fat head minnows and nightcrawlers. The best location
was in Fontana.
5/30/11 - Delavan Lake, 85 degrees, sunny, W winds at 10 mph,
water temp 59 degrees. Caught 1 Northern and 8 largemouth bass.
Fishing was very slow. There was a tremendous amount of boat traffic
out on the water and that made fishing very tough.
5/29/11 - Delavan Lake, 56 degrees, foggy and cloudy, winds
calm, water temp 58 degrees. Caught 11 largemouth, 1 walleye and 4
northern pike. All the fish were caught on split shot rigged
nightcrawlers in 3-4 ft of water near Lake Lawn Lodge. The northern
pike were caught on large golden shiners near Browns Channel.
5/28/11 - Delavan Lake, 40 degrees, cloudy, winds W at 15-20
mph. Water temp 58 degrees. Caught 14 largemouth, the biggest was
just shy of 5 lbs. and 5 northern pike. Fished nightcrawlers on a
split shot rig in 3-4 ft of water. Fished by the outlet and by Lake
Lawn. Northern Pike were caught on large golden shiners fished on a
slip bobber in 11 ft of water. The key was keeping the bait 2 ft
above the weeds, we were fishing near Browns Channel.
5/27/11 - Lake Geneva, 55 degrees, sunny, wind E at 15-20 mph.
Water temp 56 degrees. Caught 9 largemouth - 3 were legal, 3
smallmouth - 2 were legal. Fished in Abbey harbor with nightcrawlers
on a split shot rig. Did catch one of the bigger largemouth on the
top water lure. The smallmouth bass came by Belvidere Park and by
Elgin Club. The bite was pretty slow.
5/22/11 - Delavan Lake, 80 degrees, sunny, water temp 60
degrees, W wind at 20 mph. Caught 12 largemouth, 2 northern pike and
12 crappies and bluegills. Fishing was good, except for the desired
species of crappie. Most of the game fish were caught in the first 1
1/2 hours of the trip. We spent 3 hours trying to find the crappies
with little success. The normal haunts were closed due to high
winds.
5/21/11 - Delavan Lake, 55 degrees, cloudy, water temp 60
degrees. Caught 21 largemouth, 2 northern pike and 7 crappies. The
bass were caught by Lake Lawn in 3-4 ft of water. They were caught
on Senkos and nightcrawlers. The pike were caught on slip bobbers in
10-11 ft of water. Crappies were caught on small plastics.
5/19/11- Delavan Lake, sunny 75 degrees, winds NE at 4 mph.
Water temp 60 degrees. Caught 11 Northern Pike and 11 Largemouth
bass. The Northern Pike were caught on golden shiners fished on a
Thill slip bobber in 10-11 ft of water. The best location was by
Browns Channel. The bass were caught by Lake Lawn in 3-4 ft of
water. They bit on nightcrawlers.
5/17/11 - Lake Koshganong, 65 degrees, winds E at 15 mph. Water
temp 58 degrees. Caught 3 walleyes and 3 white bass. Trolled Lindy
Shadlings at the mouth of the Rock River by Newville. We were
fishing 5 ft of water. We had the crank baits set 25 ft back behind
the planer boards.
5/16/11 - Delavan Lake, 38 degrees, winds E at 15-20 mph, water
temp 55 degrees. Caught 6 largemouth bass - 2 legal, and several
crappies and bluegills. Fishing was slow due to the cold front.
Fished 3-4 ft of water. Used nightcrawlers on a split shot rig.
5/15/11 - Delavan Lake, 45 degrees, windy, windy, windy with
some rain. Water temp 59 degrees. When people don't think the
weather can get worse, it sure can. We struggled to catch 6
largemouth. All were caught on Senkos. We did fish for a few
bluegills in the channels to get away from the wind. We kept about
20 nice 8 inch gills.
5/14/11 - Delavan Lake, 49 degrees, windy, cloudy, rainy,
water temp 60 degrees. Caught 6 largemouth and some crappies. The
weather was atrocious. The bass were caught on green pumpkin and
root beer red flake Senkos. The bass were in 2-3 ft of water. The
best location was by the outlet dam. The crappies were caught on
small fat head minnows by Willow Point in 7-8 ft of water. The north
wind was a huge factor.
5/10/11 - Rock River (Newville), 85 degrees and sunny, light
winds, water temp 60 degrees. Caught 1 - 15" sauger, 3 walleyes, all
around 16 inches, 2 northern pike and 1 white bass. Fished the mouth
of the river with a 3/8 oz orange and chartreuse odd ball jigs. The
best depth was 5-6 ft. Fished 1/2 nightcrawlers. The key was to have
a stinger hook in the end of the nightcrawlers. It was a beautiful
evening on the water.
5/8/11 - Whitewater Lake, 65 degrees and sunny, very light
winds, water temp 51 degrees. Caught 8 largemouth bass. Fished using
green pumkin All Terrain stiks in 4-5 ft of water. The best location
was by the bogs.
5/7/11 - Delavan Lake, 45 degrees and cloudy, winds E at 5
mph increasing to about 20 mph. Water temp 49 degrees. Caught 3
largemouth, 1 Northern Pike and had 3 other pike on, and 17 crappies
and bluegills. The bass were caught in Lake Lawn Harbor on
nightcrawlers. The pike was caught by Browns Channel on golden
shiners on a slip bobber in 9 ft of water. The crappies were also
caught on slip bobbers in Browns Channel with fat head minnows. The
best depth was 7 ft of water. The bluegills were caught shallow, 3-4
ft of water in Browns Channel. They were caught on a Genz bug and a
leaf worm.
5/6/11 - Delavan Lake, 40 degrees and sunny, winds E at 15
mph. Water temp 49 degrees. Caught 30 bluegills, only kept about 10.
The average size was small. Fished by the dam and Browns Channel.
Used leaf worms and small bobbers.
